Mr. Will
The Weare Public Library is thrilled to introduce, Will Leathers, our new Head Children’s Librarian!
Will Leathers grew up in the Lakes Region and currently lives in Concord. He has worked at Castle in the Clouds as a museum interpreter, the James E. Nichols Memorial Library in Center Harbor, and has spent the last three years teaching library classes at Boscawen Elementary school. With only two classes left in his MLIS program, Will is so excited to be a part of the Weare Public Library team!
Libraries are a natural fit for Will. With a mother who was a reading teacher and a father who was a firefighter, education, culture, and public service were major values in his family growing up. He sees libraries as a vital institution in a democracy and feels that it is important for libraries to be joyful spaces where children can read, learn, create, and speak with trusted adults.
Working at Boscawen Elementary school allowed Will to see first-hand how children can be the most excited readers. “It’s impossible not to smile when you see a child excited about a book or a story.” He can think of no better way to help a child than by helping them find a new favorite book or help them discover a topic that they develop a passion for. Will was very happy to learn that the Weare Public Library is so close to the local schools.
When not working on his master’s, Will is constantly looking for new books to read, films to watch, and music to listen to. He also enjoys running and hopes to run his first marathon soon. He plays keyboard and guitar and likes to sing and spend time with his niece and nephew who are big readers as well.
